Building on last year’s momentum, the 2025 conference focused on practical strategies to accelerate women’s influence in senior leadership, strengthen institutional support systems, and shape the future of banking through empowered female voices.

In 2024, the inaugural Women in Banking Conference brought together over 200 women with speakers from Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. The demand and feedback showed the platform was overdue.

Across Uganda’s banking and financial services sector, research is conducted year after year, rich in theory and insights. Yet much of this work remains far removed from the day- today’s challenges faced by financial institutions. A gap has long existed between what is researched and what the industry needs.  This disparity between academia and practitioners has resulted in missed opportunities for data-driven innovation, informed policy development, and evidence-based problem-solving.  Recognizing this gap, the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), in partnership with the School of Business at Makerere University, convened its inaugural Research Conference, a landmark platform designed to bridge theory and practice and foster collaboration that directly supports financial sector transformation.  Held on 22nd August 2025, the conference marked the beginning of a new agenda: to promote relevant, applied, and industry-responsive research that can shape a resilient and innovative financial ecosystem.
