Microfinance Apprenticeship Program
Microfinance Apprenticeship Program is a training system that combines practical training in Microfinance Institutions and theoretical training at the institute. It is based on a dual training system where 80% focuses on practical training and skills application while 20% is theoretical training that is learner centered and by participatory learning.
This leads to the award of a Certificate in Microfinance Apprenticeship Program of the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services.
Objective
To empower microfinance institutions by equipping staff with hands – on cross – functional skills that are sufficient for the contemporary needs of the Microfinance industry.
Entry Routes/Requirements
Either: (i) Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with 2 Principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass obtained at the same sitting or equivalent
Or
• Banking Certificate
• Any other
What will I study?
The program covers the following modules as listed below. 7 modules are compulsory, a trainee selects one of the two electives to have a total of 8 modules.
1. Branch Management
2. Customer service and cashiering
3. Internal Audit and controls
4. ICT for MFIs (Elective)
5. Communication skills for MFIs
6. Cross cutting issues (elective)
7. Accounting for MFIs
8. Credit and default management
9. Sales & Marketing.
Study Methodology
The training is structured in a way that an Apprentice will have access to train at least with all the key departments and units at the MFI during the on-job training and also train 1 day a week (weekend classes) at UIBFS.
Duration and Tuition Fees Per Semester
The program is to be completed in two semesters with each semester Uganda Shilling 1,170,000 (2,340,000 whole program) per apprentice.

When are assessments?
The purpose of assessment is to determine competence and find out whether learning outcomes have been achieved than judging whether the trainee has passed or failed through continuous and periodic assessments.
Continues assessment are imbedded in the training process while periodic assessments will be done at the end of each module.
